Alone – Microfiction by Nic

Alone

She doesn’t think she can cope with this.

He’s leaving again.

She hears the porch door close and the front door slam. She watches from the window as he walks to his car, bag in hand.

She moves away from the window, sad and alone, not knowing how she is going to cope without him.

Climbing the stairs she just wants to disappear, pretend this isn’t happening.

Laying on the bed, she thinks of all the good times they have shared and finally falls asleep.

She wakes with a start, a noise, he is back!

She runs down the stairs, tail wagging, barking and screeching in excitement.

Her master is home, she will never be alone again.
